Viagra could put women in the pink

Viagra, the little blue pill that has done wonders for men, may soon be made available to women after trials showed that it could be just as advantageous to the fairer sex.

The pill, which would be based on a slightly different formula to the men's drug, is already being dubbed "pink Viagra".

Makers Pfizer said clinical trials on healthy women had revealed that the pill could boost libido.

It is already available on the NHS to men suffering from erectile dysfunction but is also used by those wanting to improve their sex lives. Thousands who find they do not qualify through a known medical condition are thought to resort to private prescriptions, at around £7.50 a pill.

Demand for such a drug for women could be massive. A group of Italian women who tested the drug last year reported to have more orgasms and better and more frequent sex.

The female version of Viagra would not be available for at least another two years as the new drug would require a new licence.
