US soldiers killed near Kandahar

Two American soldiers have been killed and at least 20 wounded when a B-52 bomber struck the wrong target north of Kandahar this morning. According to the US Central Command in Tampa, Florida, a number of Pashtun anti-Taliban fighters also died.

Fighting around Kandahar, the last stronghold of the Taliban leader Mullah Omar, is reported to be "very confused".

American bombers, fighters and Cobra attack helicopters have been attacking to help the Pashtun tribesmen take the city.
