Underground artist puts smiles on commuters’ faces

A Tube worker has become a true underground artist by delighting commuters with her notice-board art.

Kim Lynch has been creating her striking images at Caledonian Road station in Holloway since the winter.

The customer services assistant, 39, started with marker pen doodles on spare whiteboards but they developed into detailed scenes that have become so popular that galleries of the pictures, from seascapes to alien football matches, have been posted online.

Ms Lynch, who lives in Crouch End, has no formal art training beyond an O-level. She said she was "stunned" by the reaction to her work, drawn in her breaks or at quiet moments.

"I've never drawn before," she said. "I had no idea I could do it. It was really cold and I started putting up things like the day's temperature — they started really small and just got bigger and bigger. It's so much fun. If you can make people smile, give them a talking point in the lift — that's just brilliant."
