Tracksuit clue to park attacker

Detectives investigating the attempted murder of a woman jogger today released images of clothing worn by the victim when she was attacked.

The 39-year-old woman was stabbed in Clissold Park, Stoke Newington on 5 December. Her life was saved by a woman doctor walking through the park who managed to stem the flow of blood.

Scotland Yard said detectives knew of eight witnesses in the park around the time of the attack who had yet to come forward.

They are hoping the images of the victim's clothing - a blue Puma track top, brown track-suit bottoms and white trainers - will jolt their memories and encourage them to contact police.

Detective Chief Superintendent Jon Shatford, leading the investigation, said: "In particular we would like to speak to two schoolgirls seen in the park with a video camera on 4 December and 5 December. We are also convinced-that the attacker had been loitering in the park on the days leading up to the attack and are sure someone must have seem him."

The suspect is described as white, of slight build, in his late teens or early twenties and between 5ft 6in and 5ft 9in. He had an angular face and distinctive teenage facial hair. He was wearing a hooded top with the hood up and carried a rucksack.

Police have linked the attack to the murder of American artist Margaret Muller in February in Victoria Park, Hackney.
