The Titanic's first dinner

The first dinner menu from the Titanic, collected by the real hero of the disaster 92 years ago who saved scores of lives, could fetch a record £50,000 at auction today.

The first class menu of 2 April 1912 was collected by 5th Officer Harold Lowe.

One of only two officers to survive the sinking which cost 1,523 lives, he posted it to his fiancée on 10 April when the Titanic called at Queenstown, Ireland.

The menu, offering soup, salmon, sweetbreads, roast chicken, spring lamb and braised ham, is being offered for sale by his family at the Titanic Convention in Southampton.
