Teenager knifed in daylight attack

A teenager was fighting for his life after being stabbed in the chest on a busy street this morning.

The 19-year-old was knifed following a row outside the Whitgift shopping centre in Croydon.

He staggered through the busy centre and into an underground car park where paramedics found him. He was taken to the Royal London Hospital by air ambulance shortly after

9.30am.

Layla Hayoukane, 27, who works in a mobile phone shop near where the stabbing took place, said: "There was an old lady going mad outside. She must have seen what happened because she was going crazy. That's the only reason we knew something had happened." She added: "I thought I saw someone who may have been involved. Two guys walked past our shop and I though they looked suspicious then a couple of minutes later one of them ran back the other way without the other."

A police spokesman said no arrests had been made and Croydon investigators were keeping an open mind about a motive for the attack.

Meanwhile, a father of one was stabbed to death in Edmonton last night. The 24-year-old - named by locals only as "Judah" - was killed on Babot estate. Witnesses said three black men fled from the scene.

The murder came hours after Tory mayoral candidate Boris Johnson gave a speech in Edmonton saying that the killings of 27 teenagers in London last year was "a symptom of something badly wrong in our society".
