Take a tip from your wife, Mr Law

Deciding what to wear to a party is a grind at the best of times. But when it is London Fashion Week and your wife has just staged her own catwalk show, one would think a little effort is required in the sartorial stakes.

Yet Jude Law entertained guests at his wife Sadie Frost's post-show shindig looking decidedly grungy for a pin-up actor. Sporting a full beard and tatty jeans, he was scarcely recognisable.

Even dedicated fans awaiting his arrival at the West Street Hotel in central London failed to spot their idol, who swept by without signing a single autograph.

But as this is Jude Law, it sparked the first debate of London Fashion Week. Was this a signal that grunge is making a comeback?

But he admitted that Frost, 34, is prone to giving him advice on what to wear.

"Sadie's a great designer," he said. "She sometimes gives me tips on how to dress." Which raises a further question. Was his wife behind his new look, or hadn't he been concentrating? However, his ensemble did not harm his charm a smidgeon, judging by the attention he received at the party last night.

Although he stayed hidden for much of the evening in an upstairs suite with Frost and supermodel Kate Moss, whenever he emerged women hovered around him.

But Law, the 29-year-old star of The Talented Mr Ripley, who once said "whenever Sadie is in the room I only have eyes for her" remained true to his words and appeared oblivious to partying celebrities. Ex-Coronation Street star Angela Griffin had squeezed her curves into a clinging lilac top, while Holby City actress Lisa Faulkner, 29 , and actress Nicola Stephenson were in a skin-tight T-shirts.

Relaxing after the show, Frost said: "I wanted to do something different and refreshing and bring a breath of fresh air to fashion ," she said afterwards. "I never knew it would be such hard work. But now it's time to party and have fun."
