Swine flu teenager 'out of danger'

A London schoolgirl being treated for swine flu in a Greek hospital is out of danger, it was revealed today.

Doctors treating 16-year-old Natasha Newman said her life was "saved" and she was no longer in intensive care.

The teenager, from Highgate, has been moved to a regular ward at the Pendeli Children's Hospital in Athens and hopes to travel back to England with her parents soon.

A doctor said: "Her life has been saved, she is off the danger list. Her parents are still living in the hospital premises and can now converse quite easily with her."

The Greek ministry of health said the teenager, a pupil at Prince Charles's former public school Gordonstoun in Scotland, is one of four swine flu patients who have needed life-saving treatment. She was airlifted from Cephalonia to hospital nearly a month ago after suffering breathing difficulties. Her parents, Julian Newman and Nikki Boughton, were holidaying with Natasha and daughter Lauren.

■ A pregnant swine flu patient transferred to Stockholm for specialist treatment has returned to the UK. Sharon Pentleton, 26, was flown from Scotland because no beds were available when she suffered respiratory failure.
