Suspect's daughter has worked at Yard for over a year

New details emerged today about the daughter of a phone hacking suspect who was allegedly helped into a Met police job by former assistant commissioner John Yates.

Amy Wallis - whose father Neil was arrested over the scandal last week - has been employed by the Met for more than a year.

Mr Wallis, 60, a former News of the World deputy editor, was paid £1,000 a day as a PR consultant by Scotland Yard after he left the paper in 2009. It has emerged that he had been a friend of Mr Yates for 12 years. Mr Yates played a key role in Mr Wallis being recruited as a consultant.

Yesterday Mr Yates quit his job as Britain's top anti-terrorism officer hours before allegations about his conduct were referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. It is now investigating his alleged involvement in inappropriately securing a job at the Met for Mr Wallis's daughter.

Miss Wallis has been at the force for more than 12 months in a civilian non-operational role. Mr Wallis's company, Chamy Media, which won a competitive tender in 2009 to provide public relations for the Met, is named after Amy and his son Charlie.

A close family friend said Miss Wallis attended Royal Holloway, University of London before securing her job at the Met.

The friend said: "They are such a lovely family. I feel especially sorry for Charlie being caught up in all this. It's not any of the rest of the family's fault."

A Scotland Yard spokesman refused today to discuss Miss Wallis's role.
