Suspect caught on CCTV

The man wanted over the Camden bin bag murders has been captured on CCTV.

Hardy, who may also be known as Tony, was seen at University College Hospital, in Gower Street, between 6 o'clock and ten o'clock on New Year's Day - he left the building after refusing to give staff an address.

CCTV shows him going into the hospital at 5.57pm wearing a black baseball cap and black leather jacket and carrying a brown bag. Staff said Hardy, a former alcoholic, smelled of drink.

Detective Chief Inspector Ken Bell said: "He left the hospital without receiving any medication. He used his real name. The hospital staff became worried about him and his condition."

Staff were also concerned about his appearance and that he may be living rough.
Mr Bell said: "When they tried to talk to him about putting him in a hostel, he got panicky and left."

Earlier in the day, police had talked to doctors at the hospital about Hardy's psychiatric condition, but not in the casualty department.

He suffers from a condition called peripheral neuropathy, which can make him depressed.
Police were investigating whether his diabetic condition could cause him to slip into a coma if he did not receive medication.

It emerged that Hardy had been married and lived in Australia with a wife with whom he had four children, two girls and two boys.

After the marriage broke down more than 10 years ago, he moved back to England and no longer has any contact with his family, who are thought to live in Tasmania. He is originally from the Midlands and detectives believe he is probably still in London.

The CCTV discovery comes as increasingly desperate detectives urge a woman seen with Hardy, to come forward. They fear for the safety of Kelly Anne Nicol, 24, from Falkirk, Scotland, who was spotted with the suspected killer outside Argos on Camden High Street on Boxing Day. She has not been seen since.

Kelly is heavily tattooed and lived in a hostel near Hardy's home in Camden and was reported missing yesterday. It has been confirmed she is not one of the two dismembered victims found in bin bags near his home. Police do not know how long she has known Hardy.

Detective Chief Superintendent David Cook said: "We are particularly anxious to trace this woman, who was last seen with Anthony Hardy around Christmas time."

Scotland Yard yesterday took the highly unusual step of naming Hardy as prime suspect and issuing photographs. But the public are urged not to approach Hardy, who has a history of psychiatric illness and is described as "extremely dangerous".

Less than a year ago - on 20 January - 38-year-old prostitute Rose White was discovered dead in Hardy's bed at the flat. The death was treated as suspicious until a pathologist gave the cause of death as a heart attack.

The search for Hardy began on Monday after a tramp discovered severed limbs in binliners at the rear of the College Arms pub in Royal College Street.

Police say both victims were white and not related. The younger woman was in her late teens or early twenties, while the other is believed to be older and of European origin.

In Hardy's flat officers found the torso of one victim, as well as two saws and sex-contact magazines, with names of women highlighted.

A neighbour today claimed "strange drilling noises" were heard coming from Hardy's flat.

Sebastian Boys, 21, who lives above Hardy's ground-floor home, said: "On the Friday and Saturday after Christmas my girlfriend heard a lot of drilling coming from the floor below at all hours of the day. That was the first time we had ever heard noises like that."

Police today arrested a man they thought was Hardy but later said he was not the suspect. The man had been spotted in Greenwich by an off-duty officer.
