In spite of tough competition from the supermarkets and the unchanging price of milk, Andy Brough fund manager at Schroders says Dairy Crest shares are a buy if the price falls below 440p, where the yield just over 5%. He cites a strong management team, the strength of its cheese division under the brand name of Cathedral City, which has attracted consumers of organic produce, and the fact that the company could be a bid target. Tim Steer, fund manager at New Star agrees that the company is very cash generative, but tips the shares as a buy now - before they reach their sell-by date in 18 months time.
