Sue rants at 'Vulcan Mel'

Comic Sue Perkins is the latest member of the Celebrity Big Brother house to show signs of strain.

During a 30-minute rant she branded Melinda Messenger a "blonde Vulcan", dismissed Les Dennis as "the Dark Lord of the Showtune", and told viewers she herself should be voted out because she had become boring.

But her outburst was directed towards the camera. At the end of the tirade, she was told: "Big Brother doesn't think you've gone mad. We're caring and hoping you enjoy the remainder of your time in the house."

Perkins began: "I was really hoping that evictions would be tonight. I do find it difficult with certain people because I feel I have nothing in common with them. I can't get through on any meaningful level to either Melinda or Les.

"She's the blonde Vulcan, batting her eyelids. I find her hard to talk to. Every time I talk to her about things that are important or really matter, she looks at me like I'm narrowminded or upset. She just starts talking to me like I'm a child. She gives nothing away. I'm not saying I dislike her but I won't confide in her again."

She added she found it hard to cope with not having any cigarettes in the house. "I don't think in here I'm capable of being myself. I would rather go, and have a reality check and a laugh. If I try and have a laugh in here, I sense a lot of resistance from Les because that's his job and I just back off. He's the Dark Lord of the Showtune.

"Mel I will not talk to any more. She's shut herself off entirely.

"I don't want to compete. I can't be bothered to compete for attention or approval and Les is desperate for approval and that's why he gets upset. It's a classic performer's neurosis."

Perkins, one half of comic duo Mel and Sue, had broken down in tears the night before. She said: "Last night I was so upset about so many different things, mainly being homesick. I just got a paranoid pat from Les and a kind of 'zzz zzz' from Mel."

But of the other contestant on the Channel 4 show, former Take That star Mark Owen, she said: "Mark is lovely. I don't feel I need to talk to Mark - I don't feel in meltdown." She went on: "To be honest I don't believe the public care whether I cry or not. The public will look at the pretty face and stability of Mel. They won't give a [sound is cut]."

Dennis, who has so far found his time in the house like a prolonged session in therapy, opened his heart to his three housemates, telling them of his guilt that he chose a showbusiness lifestyle over his family.

In a late-night confession, Dennis, 48, told Perkins: "Things like divorce happen. I feel really guilty. My hardest decision in life was leaving my first marriage - and my 10-year-old son. I did it because I wasn't happy (in the marriage). I got success and thought to myself 'this is good'."

Referring to his 1991 divorce from Lynne, he added: "To actually leave the house and leave a 10-year-old behind was hard - but I have always been there for him.

"The fact he was my best man at the wedding (to Amanda Holden) is testament to that. He was doing well at the school at the time and it's just a statistic that kids stop doing well at school when things like divorce happen. I feel really guilty." But it wasn't all doom and gloom in the Elstree lock-up last night. Messenger was all smiles after watching a recorded video message from her husband - on their fourth wedding anniversary.

The former model was overjoyed to see Wayne with their two young sons on the video clip, saying he missed her but was "really, really proud" of her.

Messenger has confessed to crying herself to sleep in the afternoons because she missed her family.
