Student run over twice as she walked home

A student is in a critical condition in hospital today after she was run over twice by a hit-and-run driver.

The 18-year-old sixth former was hit by the car and then driven over for a second time as she walked home after a night out to celebrate finishing school.

The girl managed to stagger round the corner and call her mother and an ambulance on her mobile phone before collapsing on the pavement.

She had been celebrating finishing school before the start of her A-level exams, spending the evening with a group of friends.

She got off a bus to walk the five minutes home on her own just after midnight. As she passed an industrial estate, she was knocked down by a light-coloured vehicle.

Police believe the driver then "manoeuvred" the car and hit her again before fleeing.

A neighbour of the unnamed girl, who attends Gumley House Convent School in Isleworth, said: "I saw her coming home from school during the day carrying a load of balloons. She was celebrating. It's terrible."

The incident happened at the entrance of Worton Hall Industrial Estate on Worton Road, Isleworth, between midnight-and 1am on Saturday. It is not known if there was anyone else in the car but police believe the front of the car would have been damaged.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We believe that after the vehicle had been in collision with the victim, the driver manoeuvred the vehicle and was in collision with the victim for a second time.

"We also wish to speak with any local hire car companies or repair garages who have had vehicles returned or booked in with unexplained collision damage."
