Stop the bag-lady look

Even the most fragrant of English roses, like the lovely Kristin Scott Thomas, can have a bad eye day. For us, too many late nights in a smoky atmosphere, dehydration from too much alcohol and tumbling into bed with your contact lenses intact can lead to dark rings, puffy lids and bloodshot eyes. Something resembling an Orc, in fact, from The Lord of the Rings.

French skin specialist Talika has developed a one-hour eye ritual (£65), which until now was only available at the George V hotel in Paris, but has arrived in London just in time for the party season. The ritual combines plant and mineral extracts with a gentle oriental massage, using crystals. The treatment cools, moisturises and drains the lymph system; there's also a mask to keep in the fridge at home.

The therapist also recommends drinking lots of water, sleeping with the window open and propping yourself on plenty of pillows to drain puffiness. You'll resemble a Victorian consumptive, but will look fab in the morning.
