'Stone Roses to reform': Second coming for the Manchester band?

The Stone Roses look set to reunite after Ian Brown and John Squire burried the hatchet at the funeral of bandmate Gary 'Mani' Mountfield's mother.

Lead singer Brown and guitarist Squire fell out when the band split up in 1996 and are thought to have barely spoken since.

A source said: "Ian has been mulling over reaching out to John for a while now. A lot of water has gone under the bridge and everyone has grown up. Ian has just gone through a tough time with a divorce and then Mani's mum's funeral brought everyone back under the same roof.

"It was an emotional reunion. There were no harsh words. It was a heartwarming breaking of bread.

"They had a lot to catch up on and have been in regular contact since."

Fellow Mancunian Clint Boon has confirmed the meeting on Twitter. The Xfm DJ said: "It's true that Ian and John met recently. It was at Mani's mum's funeral. We all went back to a pub in Failsworth. Ian and John got on great. They spent a couple of hours chatting."

A reunion was said to be on the cards in 2009 but Ian Brown dismissed the rumours, saying: "No chance. Not in three lifetimes."
