Stars chill out at MTV Awards

The stars opted for grunge over glamour when they arrived in Edinburgh for tonight's MTV Europe Awards - and Pink even kept her slippers on.

With the Scottish weather to contend with, the singer arrived wearing fluffy animal slippers, a cap and what appeared to be pyjamas, while clutching a cuddly toy.

Pink is famous for her tight vests and low slung jeans, but having spent the week in Britain promoting her new album Try This she was already familiar with the weather.

Justin Timberlake was also wrapped up in a woolly hat, scarf and parka to keep out the cold. He and his entourage were taken from the airport to the Scotsman hotel where the penthouse suite costs £950 a night.

Sources at Timberlake's label Jive said his girlfriend Cameron Diaz had been expected to join him, but pulled out after realising his ex, Britney Spears would be there. However Britney herself then pulled out, citing flu.

Other stars flying in for the event included Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé Knowles, Dido, Minnie Driver, Vin Diesel, Missy Elliott and Sean Paul.

Beyoncé wore a leather top and had an entire street cordoned off when she turned up at the Balmoral hotel. Missy Elliott's bodyguards got into a scuffle with a photographer when the singer arrived hiding beneath a towel.

The awards tonight at the Ocean Terminal complex in Leith will be broadcast live to a worldwide audience of up to a billion people.
