Icelandic retailer Baugur, which has recently purchased Somerfield rival Big Food Group, has made a 190p-a-share offer, while property developers Robert Tchenguiz and Ian and Richard Livingstone are believed to be considering offers.
Somerfield will not reveal how much the forecourt deal is worth until its releases annual results in June, but it is believed to be somewhere in the region of £100m. The deal will increase its portfolio of forecourt locations to 170.
