GUITON Group, publisher of the Jersey Evening Post and Guernsey Press daily newspapers, increased profits by 1% to £2.4m in the first half, despite a 7% drop in turnover to £37.3m. Chairman Frank Walker says 'despite a decline in recruitment advertising, our core businesses of newspaper publishing and retailing have held up well. The technology market, however, has suffered a severe downturn which shows no signs of abating'. Showing confidence, the company lifted the interim dividend 10% to 3.22p a share.
