Seven shot and two stabbed in weekend of violence

A weekend of violence across the capital saw seven people shot and two stabbed.

Six teenagers, all aged between 16 and 19, were hurt in a violent clash in Tottenham on Friday night. Five suffered gunshot wounds and an 18-year-old man was stabbed.

They were all taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries where five of them remain. A 16-year-old was discharged yesterday and later arrested in connection with the incident.

The violence around West Green Road broke out after a group congregated and trouble spilled into surrounding streets.

A further four men, aged between 16 and 20, were later arrested. All five of those arrested were later bailed to return to police pending further inquiries.

Shiniquar Thomas, 16, who lives nearby, said: "This is shocking — it's like a gangland shooting, something out of a film. There's never been anything like this around here before, it's normally just car crime and stuff like that. But there are a lot of gangs in the area. Generally it's safe here, but it does depend on who you know."

Scotland Yard said officers from Operation Trident, which combats gun crime in the black community, are leading the investigation into the incident and are keeping an open mind about any motive.

In a separate incident, another man was shot in the leg after he tried to enter a rave in Kensal Road, Notting Hill.

A man in his twenties was shot and wounded outside the Fiesta Bar on Acre Lane in Brixton on Saturday. He was discharged following treatment.

In a further incident, a man in his 40s was stabbed outside the Premier Food & Wine shop on Clapham High Street. He is in hospital in a stable condition.
