Serial paedophile gets just one year

Police today reacted with anger after a serial paedophile escaped with a one-year jail sentence for the attempted abduction of an 11-year-old girl while posing as an officer.

Gary Brown, 32, of Hainault was convicted last month after he targeted the child as she waited at a school in St John's Wood. He told her he was a member of the police's Child Protection-squad.

Detective Constable Mark Gladman hit out at the sentence at Middlesex Guildhall Crown Court.

He said: "We can't believe it. He has a record of offences against children going back to 1993."
