Schwimmer attacked at NY party

Actor David Schwimmer left a New York hotel following an incident in which he and his girlfriend were attacked by another guest at a celebrity party.

The Friends star, one of the highest paid TV actors, and his companion had joined a party last night thrown by the Pet Shop Boys when a woman, said to have been harassing the star, suddenly attacked the couple hitting his date over the head with a glass. According to another guest the woman had been repeatedly ignored by Schwimmer before lashing out.

The injured woman was treated for cuts at the city's Lennox Hill Hospital while Schwimmer, 35, suffered some slight injuries.

Security staff ejected the alleged attacker and police and paramedics arrived on the scene at 1.30am. There were no arrests. Police said no complaint had been filed.

Pet Shop Boys stars Neil Tennant and Christopher Lowe had earlier finished a gig at the Hammerstein Ballroom and invited selected guests back to the hotel for a party.

A photographer at the party said: "There was this really drunken, obnoxious woman who was there for a good part of the party. When I first saw her I thought she was attached to David at the hips as she wouldn't leave him alone.

"David was refusing the attention and didn't want it - he didn't know what to do. Anyway something went on and she ended up attacking the woman that David was with with a glass. She was hit over the head and David was also hit."

He said he did not see the attack but other guests told him what happened. "It was a very quick thing and this woman had to be dragged off," he added.
