Sainsbury's recalls sliced beetroot after shards of glass found

Sainsbury’s has warned customers to not eat its own-brand beetroot product over fears it contains shards of glass.

The supermarket is urging those who bought the 340g jar of sliced beetroot, with the code 7860491, to instead return the product to their nearest store.

The affected jars have a best before date of August 2019 and a batch code of L318N 1737, Sainsbury’s said.

The move was described as a “precautionary measure” after pieces of glass were identified in one batch.

Sainsbury’s has apologised for the inconvenience, with a customer notice stating: "We have identified the possible presence of small pieces of glass in one batch of the above product.

"As a precautionary measure, we are asking all customers who have bought this product with the above batch code, not to consume it and to return it to their nearest Sainsbury's store where they will receive a full refund.
