Rio's apology over party 'rampage'

Rio Ferdinand apologised today after a stag night got out of hand at a five-star hotel. The England and Manchester United defender admitted he had been "high spirited" and "had a few drinks" during the wedding celebrations for Millwall midfielder Jody Morris.

Reports said Ferdinand, 26, and others knocked on room doors and then sprayed guests with fire extinguisher foam at the Grove Hotel, Watford.

But the ?70,000-a-week footballer denied taking part in the rampage early on Monday. He said: "If I upset anyone by making a noise with my high spirits, then I sincerely apologise. I was at the hotel and admit having a few drinks and being in a jolly mood.

"I categorically deny I was personally involved in the serious incident that took place involving knocking on doors and letting off fire extinguishers at people.

"The only time I could have been seen with an extinguisher was when I removed one to prevent others from using it."

Morris, 26, and Ferdinand were both questioned by police.
