What's good? Pretty, peaceful and relaxed. Sits happily on one of the nicer parts of the south bank of the Thames, and with Richmond Park as its playground, good schools nearby (especially Sheen Mount Primary and Waldegrave School for Girls) and respectable restaurants - including the Dragon Inn for a superb Chinese and the award-winning Glasshouse - raise the area's culinary options far above that of the average Zone 4 suburb.

What's bad?
Along with the terrifying house prices, Richmond also has the highest council tax in London, at £845 in the lowest band, and an eye-watering £2,536 in the upper bracket.
