Radio One DJ shot dead

A talented Radio One DJ was shot dead in a Yardie-style shooting outside a London hotel, Scotland Yard said today.

Horrace Pinnock, 24, known as DJ Village, was killed following an argument between a group of 10 men near the Plaza Hotel in Wembley.

Mr Pinnock suffered gunshot wounds when one of the men opened fire at close range. He was taken to Northwick Park Hospital but died shortly after the attack at 2.30am yesterday.

The DJ, who worked part-time for Radio 1, was tipped to have a promising career, having worked for the station on a number of occasions, filling in on a late-night Saturday slot. A Radio One spokeswoman said: "This is a tragedy and our thoughts go out to Horrace's family and friends."

Detectives say they are keeping an "open mind" about the motive and are appealing for witnesses. There have been no arrests.

Radio One rap DJ Tim Westwood was injured in a motorcycle drive-by shooting in Kennington in July 1999 after the Lambeth Country Festival in Brixton.
