£1.5bn speeds up broadband

LONDONERS could benefit from ultra-fast broadband connections after an Ofcom ruling today.

The telecom regulator allowed BT to proceed with a £1.5billion investment in its network, giving up to 20million homes in Britain access to high-speed internet.

BT will make connections more than 10 times faster, allowing internet users to view instantly high definition TV shows and films.

Ofcom chief executive Ed Richards said: "Our message today is clear: there are no regulatory barriers in the way of investment in super-fast broadband."
