Protesters show romantic side with 'truce' in Parliament Square

Protesters camping out in Parliament Square said today they will declare "a truce" for the royal wedding.

At least two said they will show their romantic side by covering anti-war slogans with best wishes for Prince William and Kate Middleton, who will marry across the road at Westminster Abbey.

A "William loves Kate" banner has already appeared in the square.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has pledged to clear the pavements of protesters on the wedding day next Friday but has yet to find the legal powers to do it.

Protester Mark Williams, 49, said: "It's going to be a great day for a lot of people and it's their day, not ours, and we've got to accept that."

Maria Gallastegui, a five-year veteran of the protest, said she would swap signs including "End the corporate war in Afghanistan", for "Good luck to the royal couple".
