'Professor' Unwin passy away

"Professor" Stanley Unwin, the man who turned gobbledygook into a comic art form, has died aged 90.

Mr Unwin, who found fame on radio and television by twisting words into his own language, died at the Dantre Hospital in Daventry.

He joined the BBC in 1940 as a War Reporting Unit engineer and went on to entertain thousands in the Sixties with the creation of his own language "Unwinese" - a mixture of malapropisms and gibberish-Before his death, Mr Unwin continued to recite his fairy tale "translations" to his eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The opening lines of Goldiloppers read: "Once apollytito and Goldiloppers set out in the deep dark of the forry. She was carry a basket with buttere-flabe and cheesy flavour."

He also appeared in several films, including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
