Professor hit bride on eve of wedding

One of Britain's leading heart experts hit his fiance and broke the arm of a barman on the eve of his wedding. Professor James Scott, 57, a geneticist based at Imperial College, lost his temper and slapped his bride-to-be after accusing her of flirting at a party, a court heard.

During an argument with landlord Robin Lawson, 33, he snapped the man's shoulder blade and broke his arm by grabbing his elbow and twisting it. Professor Scott, from Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire, pleaded guilty at St Mary's magistrates court in the Scilly Isles, to assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and was committed to Truro Crown Court in Cornwall for sentencing.

The wedding was called off but it is understood he is now reconciled with his fianc饮
