Police foil new asylum escape plot

Police have thwarted a plot by refugees to escape from a detention centre at Heathrow.

Refugees planned to set fire to rubbish bins placed at strategic points around the unit, in what threatened to be a copycat breakout to the one which left the Yarl's Wood centre devastated five days ago and caused £38 million of damage.

There were only 20 guards on duty on Sunday and Scotland Yard officers, reportedly in full riot gear, were called in after several refugees alerted security staff.
