Police find another binge drinking victim

Another Saturday night - another casualty of the binge drinking culture.

Officers combating alcohol-fuelled disorder in the city tended to a drunken man as he lay in a pool of blood on a West End pavement.

The Met's Territorial Support Group (TSG) unit was called to Tottenham Court Road just after midnight on Saturday and found the victim slumped face down on the pavement.

Worried passers-by told officers on the Operation Optic patrol he had simply fallen over after stumbling into a group of people walking the other way.

Inspector John Sulaiman, who heads three TSG units based in Finchley, feels the initiative during Thursday to Sunday throughout London has been a success.

"The aim of Operation Optic is to deal with drunks, disorder and reassure the public," he said. "It's only a matter of time before people realise we are taking this seriously. Among other incidents that night was a 16-year-old seen urinating in a doorway. He was abusive and was arrested for being drunk and disorderly. Officers also found a man in Euston wearing only boxer shorts.
