For one who made her name taking clothes off rather than putting them on, it was a distinct step up in style. In figure-hugging satin jacket, tilted trilby, stilettos and lacy underwear, she bore more than a passing resemblance to Liza Minnelli's Sally Bowles in Cabaret.

But the identity of the lookalike strutting the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week might have been lost on all but the most observant.

Behind the thick black eyeliner and blood-red lipstick was none other than former Page Three girl Samantha Fox.

Modelling for Portuguese designer Fatima Lopes's spring/summer 2003 collection, the image was a long way from the one that made Miss Fox a household name in the early 1980s.

She was the undisputed princess of Page Three models for many years before branching out and attempting a career as a pop singer.

Since those heady days she has managed to remain on the fringes of the celebrity circuit.

She hit a famous low point in 1989 when, in what must have seemed like a golden opportunity, she was invited to front the Brit Awards for live television.

Partnered by Mick Fleetwood, the performance went disastrously wrong as they fluffed lines and lost track of the script on the autocue leaving viewers bewildered. It was the last time the show was broadcast live.

Miss Fox, now 36, fell out badly with her father Pat, accusing him of trying to embezzle £1.2million of her £5million fortune. He died two years ago without a reconciliation.

But she enjoys a close relationship with her mother Carole who lives close to her in Chingford, Essex.

She has described her as her 'best friend and mentor', adding: 'It's all very easy to say to young girls who are going into the business, stick with your family and keep the family roots, but it's so true. Family is all that really matters.'
