Plane obvious ... activists say they spotted 'spy' straight away

Anti-aviation group Plane Stupid say they have uncovered a spy who infiltrated their ranks.

The activists, who protested on the roof of Parliament last month, said that a man named as Toby Kendall was actually a mole working for C2i - a "counter intelligence firm".

In the group's blog, they said: "Since late summer 2007, an employee of a corporate espionage agency has been trying to infiltrate Plane Stupid. Toby Kendall ... thought he was undercover in our London group, gathering information on what we're up to. We've been feeding the mole false information, which he's been reporting to the aviation industry."

The 24-year-old Oxford graduate told activists that his name was Ken Tobias and had claimed to be deeply concerned about climate change. But his designer clothes and inquisitive nature aroused suspicion.

The blog reads: "Sorry Toby - from the beginning your red Palestinian scarf and baseball cap was doing little to cover up an all-year tan and a relentless hunger to hear about the hardcore action - with a cautious refusal to take any yourself."

C2i is run by former special forces officers. Justin King, managing director, said he was unaware of Kendall's infiltration. He said: "The security industry is full of people who masquerade as this and that. When they are not working for us how can we stop them from working for other people?"

He added: "I'm not particularly happy about it. We will have to look into it."
