Olympics 'will bring more trafficked women to capital'

MORE women will be trafficked into London for prostitution ahead of the 2012 Olympics, experts warned today.

It is feared the Games will see a rise in women being forced into the sex trade as tens of thousands of construction workers are employed on the project and tourism booms. Ministers were today announcing a £3.7million grant for Oval-based Poppy Project, which supports victims of human trafficking.

The money will help fund more places in safe houses and pay for extra support workers. The Poppy Project has helped about 400 victims since it was set up in 2003. Three out of four of its referrals come from London or nearby.
