Old Vic venue under Waterloo shut by blaze

A theatre run by the Old Vic in tunnels under Waterloo station has been forced to close after a fire.

It has led to the cancellation of a sellout arts festival due to take place this weekend.

The blaze broke out just before midnight on Tuesday, following a performance. A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: "Four engines and 20 firefighters attended and the fire was brought under control by 3am." The cause is being investigated.

A spokesman for the Old Vic said: "The show had finished and all audience members had left."
This weekend's December Nights festival would have featured music theatre, poetry, dance and DJs.
