Chief executive and founder Gerry Martin, younger brother of JD Wetherspoon's founder Tim Martin, is in talks with Royal Bank of Scotland. Trading in the summer has been extremely tough, and attempts to cut debt by selling 10 Old Monk themed sites have so far proved fruitless. Martin wants to reduce the estate to 22 from the current 35.
