Obama design scoops award

THE creator of the winning Design of the Year, a poster of Barack Obama, has said his victory showed anyone could make a difference.

Shepard Fairey, an American graffiti artist, created a design that became a defining image of last year's election.

In a recorded message to last night's ceremony at the Design Museum in Bermondsey, Fairey said: "I created the poster after seeing Obama speak and realising I really felt he was the person to lead the county in the right direction after the years of George Bush."

Fairey printed the poster in an unofficial campaign in Los Angeles before it was used across the US.
