Nurse 'raped patient after sedating her'

A drugged woman patient was raped by a male nurse as she slept in her bed at a private hospital, a court was told today.

He had given the 34-year-old alleged victim a prescribed dose of Temazepam before he attacked her, a jury heard.

But the mother of two, despite being drowsy, woke to find him having sex with her and raised the alarm.

Zamokwakhe Jali, 33, denied raping the patient while she was being treated at the private Ashtead Hospital near Epsom, Surrey, in March. Mr Barry Cogan, prosecuting, told Kingston Crown Court that Jali had "seriously abused his position". But Ja l i claimed the woman had twice asked him for sex, saying that her husband was in a wheelchair and could not satisfy her.
