'Nuclear plant targeted for 4 July'

Islamic terrorists are planning to strike a US nuclear power plant during this summer's Independence Day celebrations on 4 July, according to intelligence officials.

A specific target is said to be the Three Mile Island plant in Pennsylvania, according to information that reached US intelligence agencies during the past several days. The Washington Times reports that the strike was initially planned for May Day but has been postponed.

On at least two occasions individuals with "Middle Eastern backgrounds" were noticed checking out nuclear facilities, it has been claimed. As a result, the FBI's counter-terrorism unit was warned to be on the alert for strikes against nuclear plants.
