Now Catalina wants out

Bosses of jungle reality show I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here were in crisis talks today with a second contestant on the brink of quitting. Model Catalina Guirado, 28, broke down in floods of tears and demanded that producers should let her leave, saying she had a high fever, was weak with hunger, and was cracking from the pressure of living in the jungle under the television spotlight.

She was pulled off the live-feed show on ITV2 this morning to see a doctor and a psychologist on site in the Australian jungle - but must have a final psychological evaluation later today before a decision can be

taken to let her go. Sources on site in Queensland claim old recorded material of Guirado - instead of the live-feed - has been transmitted in Britain today to give the illusion that she is still on the show while bosses try to persuade her to rejoin fellow contestants.

Producers are desperate for her to stay, fearing the sex interest will disappear along with viewers, if she joins Danniella Westbrook in quitting. Yesterday, former EastEnders star Westbrook, 29, walked out after breaking down in tears. As she left, the actress described her week in the jungle as like living in a "world of hurt".

Talking to the Standard from the Queensland jungle production site today, Guirado's spokesman, Sean Borg, explained: "Catalina has a fever. She has been really weak and emotional and has been crying continuously.

"She's weak with hunger and the doctor says she is undernourished and needs a good meal. She hasn't actually been on camera for the last two hours. There is a place on the jungle set where you can actually go to get away from the cameras and she has been there crying her eyes out.

"I think she's going to leave. I am going down to the camp to see if I can smooth things over. If she walks, she'll go today. She seems pretty sure that she wants to go and if I know Catalina, she's pretty feisty and will just do it.

"The producers are panicking. There's a joke that it's like Dynasty in there and Danniella was Crystal and Catalina is like Alexis. It's like

they have already lost Crystal and can't afford to lose Alexis - because no one will keep watching the show."

With Guirado's future on the show in the balance, her bank balance looks set for a healthy upturn. Her London-based publicist said today: "We have fielded around 30 serious offers from firms wanting to sign her up. They include clothes firms, drinks companies and, ironically, fitness-video producers. She's also liningup to present TV shows and host celebrity parties."

With contestants apparently suffering from malnutrition and the jungle heat, producers at Granada tried to bolster ratings today by getting them all to reveal their deepest secrets about their personal and professional lives.

Linda Barker fought back tears as she spoke about the recent death of her mother and Toyah Willcox said her biggest regret in her life was that she didn't see more of her husband.

John Fashanu said the worst point in his life was when the police came to his door to tell him his brother Justin had committed suicide. He said: "That really takes you back. It was a pretty heavy time for me. It was the worst time. He was in his early thirties - the prime of his life.

"He was great-looking with a wonderful personality. But realising the guy had so many issues that were not dealt with, and that he wasn't helped possibly by myself and my family. For him to take his own life was a real waste. Not giving him enough time and support when he came out and said he was gay and choosing not to understand his issues and the situation is my biggest regret."

Wayne Sleep said his worst experience was the press wanting him "to have Aids to get a front-page story". Antony Worrall Thompson spoke of his regret at never getting to know his father. Then Phil Tufnell came out with: "When I was 13 my mum got leukaemia and went from the big, strong woman who played cricket and football to wither away in front of my eyes. It was tough."
