These work by detecting particular hormones in the urine of pregnant women. They are widely available and take just five seconds to get a result.

Blood pressure tests

A 'CUFF' placed on the upper arm inflates at the touch of a button and then slowly deflates, checking vibrations within the arteries. When the pressure drops to the point where the monitor can no longer detect a pulse, blood pressure levels are displayed.

Diabetes testing kits

This test consists of two diabetes strips and a sample cup for collecting urine. It takes one minute to indicate if there is glucose in the urine. A positive result suggests the patient is diabetic, but the user needs further tests with a GP to confirm this.

Thermometers

Placed under the tongue, in the ear or under the armpit for three minutes, they measure body temperature. The thermometer should stay in place for three minutes for an accurate reading.

Sperm count test

The FertilMarq measures the sperm count in semen. It relies upon a dye that stains sperm cells blue. The more sperm cells in a sample, the deeper the blue.

Cholesterol testing kits

Two sterile lancets are included in these kits to prick the finger and a test card. The card absorbs a few drops of blood and takes three minutes to show a 'colour reading' which indicates a cholesterol level. It will give a reading of low, borderline or high cholesterol level.
