Nisha Patel-Nasri murdered by her husband

The husband of special constable Nisha Patel-Nasri was convicted this afternoon of organising her murder.

Fadi Nasri, 34, had his "innocent and loving" wife stabbed to death outside their Wembley home on their third wedding anniversary because he wanted to start a new life with his girlfriend, a Lithuanian prostitute.

He needed his wife's insurance money after debts had virtually bankrupted his limousine hire business which could only be rescued by the £350,000 pay-out on her death.

Mrs Patel-Nasri, 29, was stabbed as she challenged who she thought was a prowler in May 2006 - in fact it was one of Nasri's accomplices. Nasri had arranged an alibi and played snooker with friends in Colindale while she bled to death in the street.

Nasri was found guilty of the murder, together with heroin dealer Rodger Leslie and Jason Jones who struck the fatal blow. Nightclub bouncer Jones was 6ft 4in and his victim barely 5ft tall.

The jury reached 10-2 majority verdicts after 26 hours of deliberations. The three face life imprisonment and will be sentenced later at the Old Bailey. A fourth man, the alleged getaway driver Tony Emmanuel, was found not guilty of murder and manslaughter.

As the verdicts were announced Nasri shook his head as Leslie laughed and muttered "f***ing hell, that's bollocks". Emmanuel sprinted through the door of the dock shouting "I'm free" while Leslie jeered: "Make sure you lock the door behind you." Jones sat expressionless throughout.

Mrs Patel-Nasri, a hairdresser as well as part-time officer, had loved her husband and was desperate for a child. Unknown to her, while she worked seven days a week in a salon, Nasri was taking his girlfriend, prostitute Laura Mockiene, on holidays.

Mrs Patel-Nasri had bankrolled his failed businesses and paid the deposit on their home. But he repaid her generosity and devotion by turning to Leslie - a man with 15 piercings in his face representing, so Nasri believed, his 15 murder victims. Leslie, who has a history of serious violence, recruited Jones.

Five days before the murder Mrs Patel-Nasri spotted three prowlers - either on reconnaissance or a bungled attack - trying to break into the porch. Nasri then passed on house keys so that Jones could let himself in and take a knife from the kitchen.

Hearing an intruder, Mrs Patel-Nasri grabbed a heavy torch and went outside to investigate dressed in her pyjamas.

Neighbours heard her scream "He is following me", before a hooded man fled, having plunged the knife into her left groin, severing a major artery.

Jones was driven off but stopped in a nearby street to dispose of the knife down a drain. He was spotted on CCTV cameras and the weapon was recovered.

The police breakthrough came when Nasri accused a business associate of the murder and claimed he had received death threats from him in a row over a limousine. Examining his mobile phone for the threats, police also noticed several calls which linked him to the men he had arranged to kill his wife. Nasri, Leslie, 38, of Barnet, Emmanuel, 42, of East Ham, and Jones, 36, of Manor Park, all pleaded not guilty to murder.

Outside court her brother Katen Patel said: "My sister was always hardworking, she was very kind to people and very generous. Everybody can see her photographs, she's always smiling with warmth in her eyes, she was always bubbly with a cheeky smile."
