NHS faces legal action over body parts

Hundreds of families are taking the NHS to the High Court for removing the body parts of dead patients without consent, it was reported today.

A total of 2,000 families are fighting against 130 health authorities in a bid for millions of pounds in compensation.

The Department of Health says the practice no longer happens in the NHS, and the ban will be reinforced by new legislation already before Parliament, The Daily Express reported today.

Last year the families of children whose organs were removed at Alder Hey hospital received £5,000 each. The Express claims the new allegation relates to hospitals all over the country and says the plaintiffs have rejected an offer of £1,000 per family.
