New leads in Abigail attack

Detectives are set to interview a possible new witness in the attempted murder of Abigail Witchalls. They will talk to a man who called Crimewatch saying he thinks he saw the young mother's attacker fleeing the scene in Little Bookham, Surrey.

Nearly 60 calls were received within an hour after an appeal by Abigail's husband Benoit on the BBC programme last night.

Detective Superintendent Adrian Harper said that one call could prove to be vital. It came from a man who thought he had seen Abigail's attacker running away. He said: "We have had one important call from Hythe in Kent, a guy who thinks he may have been in the area."

Another call came from a woman who had been frightened by a driver of a blue car the day before in Crawley.
