New figures on house price cooling

Fresh evidence that the housing boom is over came today from Britain's biggest building society.

Nationwide said the cost of an average home rose 0.1per cent to £153,743 in August - the smallest one-month rise since October 2001. The yearon-year increase slowed from 20.3 per cent to 18.9 per cent.
