Nation split over Charles

Public opinion remains split on whether Prince Charles should succeed his mother on the throne, a new poll revealed today.

Despite attempts by the Prince of Wales to rehabilitate himself with the public following the death of Diana, only 53 per cent of people believe he should be the next king.

By contrast, 47 per cent think Charles should make way for Prince William.

The survey by online pollsters Tickbox.net for tomorrow's PR Week magazine, showed 33 per cent of people consider him to be "completely out of touch with modern Britain"and 16 per cent condemn him as "arrogant and aloof". Yet 27 per cent see Charles as a "caring and involved father".
