My London: Tim Jeffries

Where do you live, and why? In Notting Hill. In a city of seven million, it's nice to live in an area with a sense of community. It also has some wonderful restaurants.

How long have you lived there? Six years. Before Notting Hill, I lived in Chelsea, which has a totally different vibe.

What have been your most memorable London meals? Those I've eaten in my bed. I'm not telling you with whom.

What is your earliest London memory? Saturday-morning cinema in Barnet. My mum would drop me off at 11am, I'd spend the day watching films and then leave with a jamboree bag full of sweeties and useless toys.

Which is your favourite: Harvey Nicks or Selfridges? Selfridges because it's close to where I work and I never see anyone I know there. I don't like bumping into people when I'm shopping. And all my friends frequent Harvey Nichols.

What do you miss most when you're out of London? How simple it is to get things done. Because I've lived here so long, nothing is difficult.

What are your favourite home comforts? A really good glass of wine preferably Châšteau Pétrus or Chateau Cheval Blanc - and good music.

What are your extravagances? Owning a gallery. It's an amazingly expensive thing to do, but it's worth it.

What would you do if you were Mayor for a day? Banish Ken Livingstone from London. My hatred for him is traffic-related.

What is your life philosophy? Enjoy it now.

What are your favourite shops? HMV on Oxford Street, The Watch Gallery on Fulham Road, and Rococo, a newsagent on Elgin Crescent - I'm a magazine junkie.

How do you get around town? I drive a black BMW M5.

What's in your autumn wardrobe? My Helmut Lang parka. I can't prise myself away from it. It's khaki with sheepskin inside.

Where do you get your suits made? David Chambers. I've been using him forever.

Who's your barber? Charlie at Michaeljohn.

What is your favourite work of art in London? Anything in the Rothko room at Tate Modern.

What would you put on the Trafalgar Square plinth? Directions to my gallery.

What scent do you wear? Vetiver by Guerlain, a cologne for men.

Who is in your secret address book? Jeeves of Belgravia for my dry-cleaning, Wild At Heart in Westbourne Grove for flowers, and Patrick Cox, my cobbler.

What was the last play you saw in London and did you enjoy it?Living in London, it's a crime not to go to the theatre. However, I'm embarrassed to confess that the last time I went was in 1998 to see Nicole Kidman in The Blue Room at the Donmar. It was terrific.

What was the last book you bought? Yesterday I bought The Andy Warhol Catalogue Raisonne, which covers everything he's ever done. It's wonderful.

Do you have a local restaurant? Osteria Basilico on Kensington Park Road. I go four times a week as it's round the corner from where I live. Or I'll go to San Lorenzo or The Ivy.

What is your favourite gadget? My mobile phone, an Ericsson T68 with a little colour screen that can send pictures.

What advice would you give to a tourist? Kill a pigeon.

Where were the last three places you went on holiday? Sardinia, Majorca and St Tropez. I was on a boat for some of the time with close friends, and then in the South of France with my mother.
