'My amazing friend would be happy with her ghost bike'

The best friend of a design student who was killed by a lorry as she cycled to lectures has promised never to forget the girl who was "closer than a sister".

Min Joo Lee, a student at Central St Martin's, was crushed by an HGV outside King's Cross station on October 3 on the first day of her new term.

More than 100 friends, students and cyclists paid tribute to Miss Lee, 24, as a "ghost bike" was erected at the spot where she died.

The Korean-born student, known as Deep Lee, was the 13th cyclist to be killed in London this year.
Christine Kim, 21, who grew up with Miss Lee in Ulsan, Korea, and also studied at Central St Martin's, fought back tears as she told the crowd her friend had been "an amazing young woman with so much passion for life. As a child I was always jealous of her because she was good at everything."

Ms Kim said of the ghost bike: "If it reminds other drivers to be careful here and stops more people from dying then I know she would be happy."

Miss Lee was killed at the junction of Pentonville Road and York Way. Three other women cyclists have been killed in the area in five years. Transport for London safety work has yet to start despite a three-year campaign.

Miss Lee's family has taken her ashes back to Korea. Miss Lee's boyfriend Kenji Hirasawa wrote on a memorial website: "I had a lot of arguments with her to stop her riding bicycle because it is dangerous. But I could not do it. Riding a bicycle and going swimming was part of her ideal lifestyle."
