Murray fans push finals tickets to £10K

Tennis fans hoping to see Andy Murray win Wimbledon today risked up to £10,000 on the chance that he would become the first Briton in

Prices for Sunday's final soared to a record high as Murray fans clamoured to get tickets before the British No 1's quarter-final match against Feliciano Lopez this afternoon.

The 24-year-old's progress through the tournament has already seen ticket prices jump more than 50 per cent on last year's £6,000.

Edward Parkinson, a director of online marketplace Viagogo, said: "Each time he wins, the prices for semi-final and final tickets are jumping by 30 per cent as the nation's hopes are raised. If he keeps winning, I expect some seats will go for twice this level if not more."

Fans who cannot afford finals tickets have spent up to three days queuing for chance to see Murray play today.

Ross May, 16, was first in the line with Brad Marshall, Dan Jones and Robert Marnach, all 17. The students, from Basingstoke, have queued since 11am on Sunday to watch Murray. Ross said: "It's a historic day and we had to make sure we were there to support him."
