MP's 15,000-mile travelling bill

A LONDON MP in a second home controversy has put in a mileage expenses claim for more than 15,000 miles.

Rudi Vis, Labour MP for Finchley and Golders Green, has claimed £5,292 in a mileage bill, which MPs use for travelling between their main home, constituency and the Commons. He claimed £23,083 in 2007/08 in second home allowance - reportedly to fund a £520,000 home on the Suffolk coast.

MPs claim 40p a mile for 10,000 miles and then 25p a mile, so Mr Vis's bill was for 15,168 miles. It was not clear whether it was for between Suffolk and London and there is no indication it breached rules. Mr Vis could not be contacted.
